"Country Scene" by Ho Xuan Huong is about a beautiful scene in the country. The author describes the scene very precisely, including even the echos of animals in the distance. My feelings toward this poem are that I thought the scene the author describes is amazing with a waterfall and a river winding though a canopy of trees. I also thought is was interesting how at the end of the poem, the author says that when everthing fades, only poetry lasts. One poetic device the author uses in this poem is repetition, when he repeats "fading...." Another poetic device the author uses is imagery when he describes the scene such as when he says, "the long white river sliding through the emerald shadows of the ancient canopy..." He creates a distinct picture in your head and you know exactly what the scene is like. Lastly, the author uses similes when he says, "A bell is telling, fading, fading, just like love..." where he compares a bell fading to love fading using the word "like." Overall, I liked reading this poem, and I would enjoy reading other poems by Ho Xuan Huong.
