Just a small town girl
Livin' in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin' anywhere
Just a city boy
Born and raised in south Detroit
He took the midnight train goin' anywhere
A singer in a smoky room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on
Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people
Living just to find emotion
Hiding somewhere in the night
Working hard to get my fill
Everybody wants a thrill
Payin' anything to roll the dice just one more time
Some will win, some will lose
Some were born to sing the blues
Oh, the movie never ends
It goes on and on and on and on
Strangers waiting
Up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people
Living just to find emotion
Hiding somewhere in the night
Don't stop believin'
Hold on to that feelin'
Streetlight people
Don't stop believin'
Hold on
Streetlight people
Don't stop believin'
Hold on to that feelin'
Streetlight people
The song "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey is about how you should believe in your dreams, and no matter what happens never stop believing. In this song there is a young couple who are poor, but they never stop believing in their dreams. I like this song because it has a good meaning, and I like the music. In this song, the imagery that comes to my mind is a fairly poor, hardworking couple who are in a tough position, but they always have faith in their dreams. One poetic device in this poem is repitition, when the refrain is repeated, and when the stanza, "Don't stop believing Hold on to that feelin' Streetlight people. . ." is repeated. Also, personification is used in this song when it says, "Their shadows searching in the night. . ." when shadows cannot search in the human sense. Lastly, this song has a lot of rhyme, such as "room. . ." and "perfume. . ." and also "lose. . ." and "blues. . ." Overall, I really like this song and I think the poetic devices make the words very interesting.
