The poem "Daily" by Naomi Shihab Nye is about the work that she has to do daily. She describes all the chores that she does, and everyday she repeats the same process. This poem is a catolog poem, where the author creates many different images, such as typing pages and slicing tortillas, and presents them for your attention. One poetic device the author uses in this poem is metaphors, when she says, "The days are nouns. . ." and, "The hands are churches. . ." where she compares days to nouns and hands to churches without using "like" or "as." Another poetic device is similes when she says, "This bundle of clothes I wash and hang and wash again like flags we share. . ." where she compares the clothes to flags using the word "like." Also, the author uses repitition when she repeats the word "wash. . ." I thought that this poem was interesting, and I liked how she compares the chores she does to things like "flags. . ." and "nouns. . ." Overall, I enjoyed reading this poem and I would like to read other work by Naomi Shihab Nye.
