The poem "The Base Stealer" by Robert Francisis is about how in a baseball game, a runner is preparing to steal a base. My feelings toward this poem are that I think it creates an interesting image. I picture a runner on his toes, ready to take off running as soon as the ball is pitched. At the end of the poem the runner sprints towards the next base attempting to get a steal. Some poetic devices the author uses in this poem are repitition when he repeats delicate, crowd him and come on, and alliterteration when he says, "scattering of steps sideways. . ." Also, the author uses a simile when he says, "hovers like an estatic bird. . ." and compares how the runner hovers to an estatic bird using the word "like." Overall, I enjoyed reading this poem and I thought it was interesting, especially because it is about sports and I can relate to it.
